Acts 14: 18, 19
My life application summary of these verses:
“When many people approve of us, we feel good, but that should never cloud our thinking or affect our decisions. We should not live to please the crowd-especially in our spiritual lives. Be like Jesus. Know the nature of the crowd and don’t put your trust in it. Put your trust in God alone.”
The crowd can change quickly on you- but God never will.
Thought this was a great reminder today. In the past I put all of my confidence and self-worth on people’s approval of me. I was never fully satisfied because as stated above, “the crowd can change quickly on you”.
Instead of focusing on if other people approve of me – I now focus on being authentic and loving like God.
I sometimes fail at this. Just the other day I had a horrible day and couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me and why I was feeling so down. I was definitely not loving like God that day and wasn’t proud of my “poor me” attitude. The last few days I’ve been beating myself up about it but last night in God’s word I realized that if I ask for forgiveness God instantly gives it to me. In God’s eyes, the next morning was a new day and he forgot about the day before. I can feel guilty and beat myself up but that does no good. Ask for forgiveness and try to be better the next day. That’s all you and I can do. And if apologies are in order- apologize.
Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the Light of the World. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on it’s stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.”
This world needs more “light”. With all the current tragedies in our world it is easy to think evil is outweighing good. But I firmly believe there is more good in this world than bad. And it starts with you, with me. Follow God’s word. Reject darkness. Be the “light”.
