A while ago, my daughter informed her father and I, that she was no longer a little girl. The correct term to call her was a “pre teen”. Thus, since I am sharing her bedroom makeover with you all today, I decided to use the accurate term in the title of my post. LOL! But in all honesty, whether I like it or not, she is a pre teen and this summer we did start working on her bedroom makeover. That is what she requested for her birthday present and you don’t have to ask me twice to make over a room! Her room did need some working on; we had all 3 older girls sharing a room when I was close to having Emersyn and it got to a point where it was not working out…. for them or us. So we quickly turned my office downstairs into a room for Jayde. We used items we already had to decorate her room and all of her furniture was pretty much facebook finds that I quickly painted. A few years after she was ready for a change and after many months I am ready to show you all Jayde’s pre-teen girl’s bedroom!

BEFORE

We were in the middle of cleaning out her room to get ready to paint so as you can see…. it was quite messy!

AFTER

First thing I did was give the room a fresh coat of paint. Jayde wanted white which actually surprised me so white it was! I painted it polar bear white from Behr. Her bedroom is downstairs so the white really helped to brighten things up. She desperately needed a new night stand and after searching for quite some time I decided to purchase this one from Wayfair. Very nice quality and the thing I really loved about it- it came pre-assembled!

We upgraded Jayde’s bed from a twin to a queen. We do not live by family so it will be nice to have an extra bed for guests when company comes! I found this queen headboard from Wayfair for under $200. For the price, I feel like it’s a nice headboard and we are happy with it!

Jayde showed me an inspiration picture for her room and there were a lot of whites, creams, greys and peaches in it so that was my color scheme for her room. This comforter is SO fluffy and cozy, perfect for a little girl! Or pre teen I should say. 🙂 I also snagged this peach throw blanket for the end of her bed. Pillows were another find from Target, you can buy them here and here.

This rug is SO SO good! Colors are beautiful, quality is great and it is very soft which makes it perfect for a bedroom.

Reading Nook

I wanted to create a little reading/lounge area for Jayde and this corner was the perfect spot to house it. When Pottery Barn Teen was having a sale I purchased this gray leopard faux fur hang a round chair. Very comfortable and cozy! And I think the leopard print is super cute. I was also mindful of it being something she would still be able to use as she gets older.

The “Peace” sign and paper lantern is from Hobby Lobby and the “it’s cool to be kind” hanging art was gifted to Jayde. I bought this hanging light kit from Amazon to put in the paper lantern.

Chalk Painted Desk

This desk was a facebook marketplace find that I bought and painted a few years ago. I simply used some chalk paint and added new hardware to give it a fresh look and it works perfect for Jayde! The great thing about chalk paint is no priming involved beforehand!

These curtains really add a lot to the room, I think they are the prettiest color! As well as being very affordable, I think they were a great find. You can purchase them here.

This little window area needed help. I don’t love our aluminum window wells and it’s just not a very pretty area to look out into. To help it out, I added this wallpaper in it; a subtle but a really pretty added element.

I bought this dresser a few years ago off of facebook marketplace, you can see it in the before pictures. Again, just gave it an update with some chalk paint and I used rub n buff on the hardware. We had this mirror in storage, another thrifted find, and I hung it above her dresser.

I’m sure as time goes on, Jayde will add more things to her room as she pleases! I started this project at the beginning of May and finally, after almost 5 months, I feel like it’s done! We have a happy “pre teen” and I really love how the room looks! Thanks for stopping by!

xoxo Kayla

  1. I have never thought about wallpaper around the windows. Such a cool touch. And I love the hanging plant, I think I might need to do that to our window well downstairs. Thank you for linking everything. All of my kids’ rooms are in major need of makeovers.
