Front Porch Design With Stenciled Concrete Floors – Spring Makeover

Kayla

Happy!! Happy!! Happy!! Ahhh this front porch design makes me SO happy!!!! I wanted to give our front porch a little spring makeover and after doing this mood board for it a few months ago, I’ve been patiently (lets be real-impatiently) waiting for spring to hit so I could get started on it. In all honesty our spring has been more of WIND than nice weather and now it feels like summer (my least favorite season). How has your spring been where you’re at? Hopefully you’ve had a nicer one than us. The last few days I have been able to work on the front porch and it is my favorite look yet!!

Over the years I’ve done many small makeovers on this space; here are a few:

Front Porch Before

Definitely in need of some tlc. A few years ago, I had painted this and just did some touch ups last year- a new coat of paint was for sure needed.

Over winter when snow sits on these steps it does cause some of the paint to peel off. It literally takes me 5 minutes to touch it up every spring so I don’t mind having to paint it!

After

Stenciled Front Porch

So obviously the biggest difference is this beautiful stenciled concrete floor! Oh my gosh, I knew I would really like it, I just don’t think I knew how much of an impact it would make. This is the star quilt tile stencil from Royal Designs- you can buy it here.

How to Stencil a Concrete Front Porch

  1. Scrape and sand off any peeling paint.
  2. Roll on your base color (mine was white) and let completely dry.
  3. Start your stencil in a corner and use a brush or roller to apply your paint. Use painter’s tape to hold down your sides so your stencil does not slide around.

4. Use a roller or stenciling brush to apply your paint. (I prefer a brush.) TIP: Use a small amount of paint to prevent bleeding and always wipe off your brush on a paper towel before applying. You will not use very much paint at all for this part.

5. Last step is to just keep going. (Think Dora on Finding Nemo: “Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.”) “Just keep stenciling, stenciling, stenciling.” #momjokes #sorry

After I put Emmy down for bed the other night I started to stencil around 9:00 p.m. Nap time and bed time are my project times. I was planning on just stenciling a 1/3 of the concrete but once I started rolling along I just kept going til’ it was done. Honestly- it wasn’t as bad as what I thought it was going to be! The next morning might’ve been a little rough but it was 100 percent worth it! Podcasts are my best friends during project times like this- grab a beverage of choice, put on some cozy clothes and start a good podcast – you are good to go!

Front Porch Design

At the end of the post I will link everything I can for you all!

Last year I bought a ton of these terracotta pots, aged them with this simply diy and I’ve been hooked on them ever since. What I love about terracotta pots is they are inexpensive, readily available, and add so much charm. Usually I can find a ton of them at garage sales or thrift stores. I used to have 2 large black planters on either side of the door but it always felt a little crammed to me- we now have those planters on our back patio and they work much better back there.

For Mother’s Day we went plant shopping (isn’t that what all the moms want to do?!) and I picked up all of these guys- geraniums and this new tree that I am obsessed with. For now I put it in this pot and eventually will plant it somewhere.

Are layered rugs still a thing?? I am still a big fan!

Rocking Chairs & Porch Swing

We replaced our 11 year old rocking chairs with these ones and are really impressed with the quality!

Simple artwork on the chalkboard. Need to touch up the chalkboard with some chalkboard paint- will get that done another time.

Does she look ornery or what?!?!?!

The answer- YES!

Thank you all for stopping by!
