Jesus & Vacuums
I have a vacuum with a little light on the front of it. My hardwood floors will look quite clean to me, until I turn on the vacuum and the light sweeps across the floor- showcasing much dirt, dust and hair. Every time, it catches me by surprise- how can that much junk accumulate in just 1 day I wonder to myself? I go across our floors, my vacuum picking up the particles that I then dump out into the trashcan. The next day- I do it again. Copy and paste to infinity.
The floors are much like my soul, our souls. In the dark, we think we aren’t that dirty, we aren’t that sinful. We aren’t as bad as them. But when the light comes, we realize how dirty we are. Jesus’ word lights up all the dirty, yucky things in us and as much as we try, it seems like we can never fully quite get rid of the junk.
There is no human without dirt and dust and junk in their soul. I used to read about the Israelites wasting 40 years in the desert and I would shake my head in disbelief- how could they be so dumb? So clueless? The further along in my faith I’ve gotten, the more I realize I am an Israelite. And so are you.
In my own doing, my own trying, I can do nothing. There is not enough good deeds I could do, loving words I could say to clean up the dirt inside of me. Jesus is my vacuum. He cleans me out, makes me new and I need Him every single day.
Thank God for Jesus and vacuums.
