Dining Room Winter Refresh- How I Refresh A Space

Kayla

Hello! Happy Wednesday! I keep thinking today is Thursday- but indeed it is Wednesday. The last month I really have had no concept of days or time for that matter. Anyone else that way?? Last night I made my apple crisp and forgot how delicious it is! You can find the recipe HERE. I downed some more just a little bit ago for a snack and I’m thinking it might just be my supper too. 🙂 Probably my favorite dessert- ever! Before eating my apple crisp I decided to give my dining room a refresh. Ever since I took down our Christmas decorations, I haven’t touched the space and it was looking quite sad. I thought I would take you through my process of re-decorating a space!

Remove Everything

The first thing I did was remove everything off of my shelves as well as all of the throw pillows. This is the perfect opportunity to dust, which it definitely needed done!

Swap Out Pillow Covers

A while ago I started to invest in pillow covers and inserts, rather than actual pillows that don’t have a removeable cover. Storing pillow covers does not take up as much space as an actual pillow. I like these inserts.

I’ve been enjoying adding different colors and patterns in my decor lately; all of these cozy pillows make me happy!

The nice thing about pillow covers is you can wash them. I will wash the covers I took off and store them away for the next time I want to switch pillows up.

Shop Your Home

I have always been a big believer in shopping your home before shopping in a store. When I’m ready to change up a space I go from room to room, searching for items I can move around. Every time I find something that will work in a different space. And that’s exactly what I did today- shopped my home and moved things around.

Another tip is to use everyday items- I have some cutting boards and dishes on here as decor.

I brought in this ZZ plant from our master bedroom, this art print that was in storage (I bought that at a thrift store for like $1) along with some glass bottles and some faux candles.

Repeat Colors

Another tip is to repeat colors. I have black, oranges, greens and whites. The artwork displays a lot of these colors as well.

I get asked quite often where I find all of my pillow covers at- Hobby Lobby always has a lot of good affordable options as well as H&M.

Have Fun

My last tip is to have fun! I NEVER get things right on the first time- I usually switch around decor a few different times until I get it right.

Is there a space that needs refreshed in your home?!
