Stairs Redesigned – Stick & Peel Vinyl Flooring

Kayla

Happy Friday friends!! Hope you all are having a wonderful day! Today I wanted to share our downstairs’ staircase that I gave a little makeover to this week. So….a few years ago, I tore up the carpet on the stairs leading to our basement. It was not in the budget to get new stair treads so I decided to simply paint the stair frame black.

Staircase Before

After going back and forth on what to do with the landing, I ended up finding some vinyl boards off of Amazon, that I installed. I hired someone to install this rug runner and have been happy with it all over the last few years!

Lately I have been wanting a more finished look to the stairs. You can see in the picture below that the paint had started to chip a little bit. The MAIN ISSUE though, is that black shows EVERYTHING. Every little piece of dust, dirt, etc. shows up and that has been driving me a little nuts.

I had a ton of vinyl boards left over from my laundry room makeover – go HERE to see the different ways I used these boards in that room. On Wednesday I had the idea to cover up the stairs with these boards. LOTS of little cuts and it took me all day BUT I am SO happy with the outcome!

Stairs Redesigned- Vinyl Flooring

I love that this looks like real wood flooring even though it is not. The boards do not go all the way under the rug. I definitely could’ve pulled up the rug runner and did it that way- definitely would’ve been less little cuts BUT I didn’t want to deal with all of that so chose to make little cuts for each stair tread. I also pulled up the vinyl black flooring on the landing and replaced it with the new flooring. MUCH better in my opinion!!

STEPS TO INSTALL STICK AND PEEL VINYL FLOORING
1. Clean off surface with soap and water.
2. Scrape off any notches so your surface is smooth.
3. Cut flooring to size with scissors and apply.
4. Use rubber mallet to ensure it is adhered well.
5. Caulk around the edges for a finished look.

The caulking is a MUST. Really helps finish off the look – I used an almond color.

There are a few more things I want to do in this little area- touch up the walls, get a few more larger black frames for the gallery wall and replace the trim on the landing. Sometimes you have to get creative when it comes to home projects and being on a budget! But honestly, I truly enjoying figuring things out like this. My back might be a little mad at me, lol, but it was worth it and I love it! Thanks for stopping by!
