Christmas Decor Seasons

DIY Copper & Green Ornaments

Kayla

I can’t remember the last time I sat down and did a fun craft like this one. These days all I seem to be painting are walls or cabinets so this was a nice creative break for myself. I made these diy copper and green ornaments and I thought I’d share them with you all! Super easy to do!

Side-note: have you started decorating for Christmas yet?! Today I went all out and spent the majority of the day putting out our Christmas decorations. I am LOVING my colors this year and although I am quite tired and still have more to do in the weeks ahead- the majority of it is done and it makes me so happy! Go HERE to see my inspiration for this Christmas season. As the sun went down and our twinkle lights lit up our home, it made all my efforts today worth it.

Supplies

  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Clear Plastic Ornaments- I purchased these ones
  • Fine Sandpaper

DIY Copper & Green Ornaments

I have to give credit where credit is due- I found this craft idea from City Farmhouse; a blog I recently came across and instantly was drawn to. I could spend hours on Jen’s blog; she’s incredibly talented.

First step is to pop off the top of your ornaments; you can spray paint them a different color if you want or leave them as is. I chose to leave them silver.

Insert a pencil or something similarly shaped into the ornament to hold it in place and start making random brush strokes around it. I had a paintbrush for each color so I didn’t mix the colors. The colors will mix a little bit anyway but no worries; this is a fun, no rules type of craft!

After a little experimenting, I did copper and black together on half of the ornaments and green and black on the other.

Because I have a pair of 2 year old hands always reaching for what they shouldn’t be reaching for- I placed these on paper towels to dry in a bowl high up when they weren’t completely dried and…. you guessed it- some of them had paper towel remnants stuck to them. I simply took some fine sandpaper and sanded it off and I actually kind of liked the texture it added. Sometimes accidents pay off!

You are also getting a little peek at my Christmas mantle! Aren’t those stocking tags so cute?!

This would also be fun to do with your kiddos and let them pick out what colors they want to use. Place in a wire basket like I did, a glass jar, or put on a tree! And since they are plastic, you don’t have to worry about them getting broken.

Happy crafting!
