Accent Wall in Bedroom – Stenciled Wall To Create A Wallpapered Look

Kayla

Our master bedroom has definitely been one of the most neglected rooms in our home throughout the years. Last year, it was one of my resolutions to make it into a retreat for myself and Matt. 365 days later, no such thing happened. This year, I again, made it a resolution to make it over into a space we love to be in and while there is still a few ideas and things I want to do in this room- I feel like I have successfully accomplished my goal! Woohoo! Last week I grabbed some paint, a stencil and paint brush and transformed the wall behind our bed to create a wallpapered look.

Before

I really wanted to bring some drama into this room so started out by first painting the wall in the color blue spruce by Benjamin Moore- a pretty medium blue color.

I have used Royal Design Studio Stencils for many projects over the years – a “tiled” fireplace, a front porch makeover, and a fun design on our sidewalk. Stenciling is SO easy and can transform a space in under an hour. After browsing, I landed on the Isadora Damask Wall Stencil to create a wallpapered look on this wall. I used painter’s tape to hold the stencil in place and a large stenciling brush to apply the paint. I chose Narragansset Green from Benjamin Moore for the stenciling part; it’s a beautiful deep green/blue color.

After

Does that not look like wallpaper?!?!

Can you believe the difference?! I feel like I’m in some fancy hotel room which is 100% the vibe I was going for. And can we take a minute for this bed??! This is my dream bed and I feel so lucky that we were able to purchase it. A few months ago I saw that it was on sale for 50% off and pulled the trigger. This bed is beautiful, very heavy and well made. It’s classic enough that it’s something I can keep forever and will never go out of style.

Nightstand Styling

We’ve had these nightstands for years and they still work good in this space for now.

I’m always a fan of a mirror above a nightstand which is what I did here. I added some dried stems that really pop against the blue color, a tray to hold my macaroon diffuser, sleep spray and blue light glasses. My sleepy time oils are stored in this small stone bowl.

Instead of doing lamps on our nightstands, I opted to do these swivel plug in sconces. I love that they don’t take up any space on our smaller nightstands. Very affordable and good quality!

Art Above Nightstands

I randomly came across this art piece on Smallwoods Home and instantly fell in love with it. The colors are spot on for this area and it reminds me of Matt with all of the girls. This is his side of the bed so it seemed fitting.

Cozy Bedding

There is nothing better than getting into your own, cozy bed at the end of a long day. This is my formula for a cozy, fluffy bed:

Recently, I purchased the Cool Zzz Mattress Pad from The Company Store and it was one of my best decisions yet. This added another layer of coziness but also has a cooling effect that we greatly appreciate. There’s nothing worse than being hot at night, in my opinion anyways.

I also invested in a good quality quilt from again, The Company Store. This quilt is lightweight, very comfortable and washes up really nice. We’ve had this quilt for years now and it’s held up wonderfully; again a piece I think we will have for a very long time.

A duvet at the end of the bed creates more coziness and extra warmth on cold evenings. And of course, a cozy bed MUST have lots of pillows. These pillow shams are from Anthropologie but unfortunately are no longer available. I added some more pillows and this faux fur lumbar pillow cover I recently found on clearance at Pottery Barn. The more textures you can add, the better!

Cozy Bedroom

Our bedrooms should be a cozy, safe haven and I don’t know why a lot of times they are the most neglected space in peoples’ homes.
