Back Patio Reveal

Kayla

Yesterday was the first official day of summer for us! Girls are out of school, all of the end of school year stuff is done and the next few months are looking a little less busy which we are welcoming with open arms. The month of May is always crazy for us so I’m ready for things to slow down a bit. I have been working on our back patio makeover and am excited to show you all! I wanted to hold off until we got a few more things done but I realized done is better than perfect sometimes. All of the little touches I still want to do can be done over the next few months and I don’t want to wait that long to show you all the space! If you want to see my mood board for this space you can go here. Mood boards are great to help create a vision for a space and my mood board I made definitely helped me.

BEFORE

As you can see, we had done nothing to this space except some nice chalk art.

AFTER

Finding furniture for this space was not easy, it literally took me 4 tries to find something! It is crazy how quickly outdoor furniture sells out. Honestly though, I am happy my first 3 attempts did not work out because I am really, really happy with our outdoor furniture purchases! I purchased this couch here. Things I love about this couch- the black metal frame (very durable), the quality of the cushions, how wide and comfortable the seat is and the price. I really wanted cream cushions but with a 1 year old goldendoodle, I knew that would not be wise. In all honesty we already had a mishap with one of the cushions that our Shadow thought could be a chew toy.

I purchased the chairs from Target; you can buy them here. Like the couch, I am super happy with the quality and comfort of these. These string lights were purchased at Walmart, link is at the end of this post, I love the ambience of them at night.

Painted Concrete

One of the diy’s I did in this space was paint the concrete white. In the past I’ve painted our front porch a few times which you can see here and I have always loved how it has turned out. This space was a little bit of a different story. First off, I used a different type of paint, which I regret. If you want to know why, you can go to this post. Second off, I didn’t realize how much Shadow (our dog) likes to dig in the mud. He likes it. A lot. Because of this and the type of paint I used, our patio always looks dirty even though most of the time he is kept inside. If I could go back in time I’d probably skip the painting altogether or go with a darker color like black. You live and learn, right?! In the future, I’ll probably end up painting it a darker color.

I snagged these planters from Walmart back in April and I love them so much. They look very similar to the fluted concrete Pottery barn ones that I linked up in my mood board post and are a fraction of the price.

DIY SIGN

One of the diy’s I did in this space was this “Mountains” sign. I bought a pre-cut board from Home Depot for around $10, nailed some trim around it and painted it white. Years ago I used to make signs and sell them at junk shows; the way I do it is print out a mirror image of whatever word/s you want on your sign and then trace over it with pencil and use a paint pen to fill it in.

Colorado Blue Spruce

Basically ever since we’ve moved into this house I’ve wanted some more privacy in our backyard. We love our neighbors; our girls will talk over the fence which is pretty darn cute but I’ve always loved pine trees and have imagined starting out my window at them for years. In the background of the below picture you can see one of the pine trees that we had put in 2 weekends ago. My awesome brother-in-law owns his own landscaping business and hauled down 10,000 pounds of pine trees; 4 trees to be exact and him and Matt planted them. The night before it rained A LOT and our yard is flat so holds a lot of rain; therefore when he used the bob cat to plant them, our yard got all torn up. We had NO idea how big the trees would be when we ordered them. Once we get our yard nice again, I will show you all the trees! A HUGE THANKS to Ted and Jessie for traveling down and helping us out!
