Simple Christmas Decor on Open Shelves in Dining Room

I am starting to sprinkle Christmas decor throughout our home, slowly but surely this week! Yesterday, I worked on the Christmas decor on our open shelves in our dining room. In years past, I have always put out all of my Christmas decorations in one day. But then I heard a fellow blogger talk about how she liked to take a whole week to put her decor out and I wondered why I had never thought of that before. Last year I spread it out over a week or two and it was SO much more enjoyable to me. Putting it all out in one day can be exhausting and overwhelming. What do you guys prefer?!

When decorating open shelves for Christmas, or any time for that matter, I take everything off the shelves and start with a clean slate. This is a great time to do some dusting as well. 🙂

And then I just start playing around with different layouts of things. I bought these cute little houses at Target last year. They are adorable and I want to buy some more this year! Would you believe it if I told you the closest Target to me is like an hour and a half away?? Sadness. Much sadness.

I like to keep the same color scheme throughout as well because it helps tie everything together nicely. Neutrals are speaking to me this Christmas season.

I love having a chalkboard in my dining room. My artist sister could do a masterpiece on this chalkboard….me though… some simple pine trees and “snow”. I couldn’t find this exact chalkboard on-line but here is one very similar.

I also did some faux pine sprigs on each shelf as well; that helps to give a cohesive look.

White houses, faux pine sprigs, some jingle bells and some Christmas art is all it took to make this area of our home look festive. Decorating doesn’t have to be expensive! By adding those simple things, we now have a cozy area to dine together in!
