In our kitchen we don’t have a lot of open wall space. Every wall has cabinets on it so there is no where to put an open shelf or hooks to display items. A while ago I added these wooden hangers from H & M to the side of our fridge using magnets. It makes the perfect spot to display some cute decor pieces & items we use in the kitchen. Immediately I knew I wanted to add some wallpaper here. It felt kind of blah to me so I began hunting for stick and peel wallpaper. Holy moly. Lots of options out there but I finally narrowed it down to one and ordered it.
I purchased this wallpaper HERE. I fell in love with the scalloped design and it was a great price point. I’ve seen a few other bloggers use this same wallpaper in their projects and thought it would go nicely with our new white kitchen. It’s definitely more modern than what I would typically do but I find myself being drawn towards more of that style lately.
The wallpaper was easier to put up than I thought it would be. I’ve never done it before so didn’t really know what to expect. I didn’t time myself but my guess is it took me right around a half hour from start to finish. The hardest part is to make sure you don’t have air bubbles, that’s what the squeegee is for and to make sure your pattern lines up. If you do end up with a few air bubbles just barely poke it with your razor blade and the bubble will smooth right out and you wont see the tiny hole at all.
Wallpaper sure has come a long ways. I can remember when I was little spending hours scraping pink kitten wallpaper off of my bedroom walls when I decided I had outgrown it. My mom had our living room walls adorned with pink and blue heart wallpaper that she had to scrape off at some point as well. Isn’t it funny that we look back at that and think, “What were they/I thinking?!” I wonder if my girls will think the same thing of me when they get older. Funny how styles & trends change.
I think the kitchen and dining room flows nicely together now.
My grandpa & grandma’s home in Omaha is adorned with wallpaper as well. They aren’t with us anymore but we were lucky enough to get to keep the house; thanks to my mom and dad and aunt and uncle. We have so many special memories there and whenever we travel to Omaha we stay there. Opening the red front door and walking in, it still smells the same it smelled 10 years ago and memories always flood my mind. We went there this last weekend and some of the wallpaper my grandma had put up actually looks like some of the trends I am seeing now. I’m sure that wallpaper has been there for over 30 years. There are also macrame plant holders throughout the home. Isn’t it crazy how styles come back? Who decides when this will happen?! For real. I want to know!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, painting my kitchen cabinets white has allowed me to start transforming our home into a space that brings me joy. If you’ve been putting off doing something because you’re fearful of failing…. just do it! If it’s been on your heart for a while just go for it. It’s on your heart for a reason. Now I wish I wouldn’t of waited almost 5 years to paint my cabinets!
