Small Dining Room Makeover
After our kitchen makeover was completed, I knew I needed to update our dining room. Our house is an open concept and the dining room is right off of the kitchen. The dining room set we had was a really pretty dark wood color with traditional grey chairs. In a larger, more traditional space, this dining room set would be beautiful and work out great but in our smaller, more eclectic dining room, the set did not work out so good. The chairs were heavy and clunky and were hard to maneuver around in our tight area; and the dark wood no longer went with the decor in our home. A small dining room makeover is what this space needed!
First, I created this mood board to help me see what would work in this space. I knew I wanted to keep the bench- it has worked really great in this space, as well as the light fixture and floating shelves. A new table and chairs, plus a rug (go here to see why) is what was really needed.
Before
After
I am SO happy with how this space turned out!! The lighter table and chairs ties into our kitchen decor so much better now.
Dining Room Rattan Chairs
These rattan chairs were an Amazon find and were actually labeled as outdoor or indoor chairs. I loved the style of these- definitely more of a boho/eclectic feel to them then what I typically go for.
These chairs were very easy to put together. They are very lightweight and well made! The cushions are removeable and washable which I definitely appreciate. I will say- there has been lots of spills on these (which I knew there would be)- and everything has came right off with some Thieves dish soap and a wet rag.
The backs of the chairs do lean back a little bit which I actually like- they are very comfortable! In my opinion these make a great dining room chair- I love the fact that they are lightweight and easy to move around in our small space!
Dining Room Table
I have been waiting months for this table to come in! About 27 seconds after they dropped the table off the other day, I put it together and had it up in less than an hour, lol.
You can find this table here. I searched multiple sites and ended up going with this one and I’m so happy I did!! Well made, beautiful light wood color, and I love the trestle design to it.
Besides loving the look of a trestle table- this style works much better with a bench or settee type of seating. With our old table, the legs were on the ends so did not allow us to push the table closer to the bench. With the legs being in the middle- we can scoot the table closer to the bench which makes the bench more comfortable to sit in while eating- you are not so far away from the table and also allows a little more space between the kitchen and dining room.
Rug
I have tried multiple different rugs in this space and I feel like we finally have a winner! This rug was on sale when I purchased it, you can find it here. For a while I had a ruggable rug in here but unfortunately the sides started to come up and would not stay down no matter what I did. (In hindsight I think my Robot vacuum created this issue.)
The colors are GORGEOUS- reds, blues, greens, creams- it really adds some warmth to the space.
The rug came quickly, lays down nicely (no upturned edges) and is comfortable and soft. No rug pad is needed.
See how nicely the table goes with the floating shelves now?!
It’s so nice when a space finally feels like it has come together. Even though this space is small- all 6 of us can comfortably fit around the table. Cozy, comfortable and beautiful- love it so much!
