Staircase Landing Makeover with Board Ceiling Treatment
Hello, hello! I hope you all are staying warm wherever you are. The girls had Monday off of school and today school was cancelled because of how cold it is so we have had a pretty chill last few days which has been nice! Even though it has been FREEZING here lately, I have had the itch to start spring cleaning. Anyone else?! I created a spring cleaning checklist that you can print off and use for your own home; I already have mine printed off and plan on starting my cleaning frenzy very soon!
Spring cleaning aside, the real reason for this post is this space. About a month ago I diy’ed a cement wall treatment on our staircase wall which you can see here.
I LOVE the way this wall turned out, a very messy project, but well worth it! This project inspired me to continue my way down the stairs and makeover the staircase landing. Matt hung a $10 garage sale mirror at the bottom of the stairs shortly after we moved into our home 5 1/2 years ago. And I hadn’t touched it since.
BEFORE
AFTER
So much better, huh?! Bye bye boob light!!!! I painted the walls white, did a wood board ceiling treatment, and re-decorated the landing.
Board Ceiling Treatment
Lets first talk about this ceiling. The warm wood tones with the more modern cement wall is just too good.
I had a lot of scrap wood left over from my board and batten project in the guest bathroom and decided to use all of that for this ceiling. I used 1 x 3 furring strips (very affordable), stained them the same way I did these boards and cut them random sizes.
I used a quarter to space my boards and my nail gun to nail them up into the ceiling. This whole project was done by myself and I am pretty proud!
This light is SO much better and was very affordable; under $40!
Staircase Landing Design
I ended up finding this Porter Leaner mirror online for a great price and free shipping and thought it would look great here. On a side note it does say it should not be hung but I simply attached a heavy duty wire to the back of it to hang it on the wall but do that at your own risk!
The rug was another World Market find. It is a really nice quality and a really beautiful rug.
To cozy up this space I added a pillow and a faux sheep-skin rug draped over this bench. The bench helps tie in the boards on the ceiling to the rest of the area.
The black mirror ties into the black frames on the gallery wall which helps tie the 2 spaces together. I always try to tie spaces together by the easiest thing, color.
Future Plans
In the future I have plans to rip the carpet off of this stairway and landing and have wood steps with a fun stair runner. I want to wait til’ Emersyn is a little older though for safety reasons.
All in all, this entire space took me about a month to makeover. I am so happy with it and can’t wait to rip out the carpet someday!
Thanks for stopping by!
