Thrift Store Find Makeover

I used to go thrifting ALL THE TIME years ago and I still have a lot of those pieces dispersed throughout my home. It is amazing what a little paint and time can do and I love finding random treasures that I can turn into something beautiful. A few months ago, on a much needed thrifting expedition, I bought this piece for $15.

My original plans for this piece was to cut off the back side and sides and somehow hang it from the wall in our hallway upstairs. After brainstorming in my garage for a good half hour on how I was going to actually do that, I decided to pivot and change plans. My carpentry skills only go so far… as well as Matt’s.

I love it so much! I knew if I didn’t hang it from the wall that it would need to be placed on top of something or put in one of my girl’s rooms for books. The girls really do not have any room in their bedrooms for any more big pieces of furniture so I decided to place it on top of this narrow console table in our basement.

Matt picked me up this spray paint from Home Depot. I have never used this exact kind but I really liked it!

After giving the piece a couple coats of spray paint, I let it dry for a few hours and then lightly sanded it with some fine sand paper.

I love using downloadable art for three reasons:

1. affordability 2. Large assortment 3. quickness

Downloading art is very easy. Simply search for an art print you want. Purchase it. Download it. And then upload it to whatever site you are ordering from. I use Walgreens and usually it’s ready in less than an hour for me to pick up. Convenient and quick! Tip: Walgreens always has a 50% off coupon for prints!

I added in some sprigs of faux greenery along with some candles I had on hand. It’s a very narrow space so I had to get a little creative!

I feel like this will be super fun to decorate for the different seasons and holidays heading our way. Can you all believe the summer is almost over?!

This was such a fun little project to do and I am really happy with how it turned out! I was talking with a friend today about how as a creative person, if I don’t have a project or something I’m working on, then I start to get a little antsy and feel out of sorts. Being creative brings me so much joy!

Thanks for stopping by!

xoxo Kayla
